Bob Duggan
Bob Duggan founded Executive Security International, Ltd. in 1980 with a fixated interest in human behavior, especially dangerous behavior in crowds or the public arena. The antecedents of this interest began with the martial arts where his interest in the precursors of assault sharpened. The linkage between the martial arts and the establishment of a professional school for protection professionals was rooted in his belief that the precursors to physical assault and the stalking pursuit of high profile personalities were observable and therefore manageable. After working close protection for celebrities and families of high net worth in Mexico and in the U.S., Bob was convinced that his anecdotal observations of body language and movements in a crowd were clues to intentions, and these clues of aggressive behavior could be taught to others. Bob acknowledged that a well-trained protector of other human beings required a comprehensive collection of hard and soft skill-sets. In addition, he knew that such skills could not be taught in a one week seminar, so he designed a curriculum modeled after the U.S. and British protective services. He set out to assemble instructors who were known in the industry to be experienced and knowledgeable in a wide range of protective skills. In 2015, the profession of close protection has matured and diversified into specialties that include executive protection in a corporate settings, protection of celebrities and families of high net worth, public and government figures, protection of individuals in war zones and people of faith. With the intention of preparing men and women for these diverse professional settings and requirements, Bob Duggan and his team at ESI designed a corresponding five-month curriculum. These curricula form the basis of a future international security institute.
